Ticketed training workshops

Our Primary Prevention Training team delivers ticketed training workshops throughout the year  in various locations around Tasmania. Participation in these workshops is open to members of the public and bookings are essential. Content for these workshops has been developed for a generalist audience - it is not expected that participants will have advanced pre-existing knowledge of the topic/s.  Workshops open to the public

Some people join these workshops to improve their knowledge for professional purposes, while others who take part in the workshops are doing so for personal interest.

Child Safe Training Spaces

4-hour workshop

This primary prevention introductory workshop is designed for instructors, coaches, managers, staff and volunteers who work directly with children in sport and other physical activities. The aim of this program is to reduce the likelihood of sexual harassment and abuse within the sporting industry, and ultimately to keep children safe.

This workshop was developed by our Primary Prevention Training team at SASS as a response to the recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and the Human Rights Commission into the culture of gymnastics in Australia.

Sexual Trauma 1st Aid

4-hour workshopAlthough it was confronting, this was probably the most valuable training I have ever taken part in. Five stars. (participant testimonial from Sexual Trauma 1st Aid workshop)

This workshop helps to raise understanding of sexual assault in our community, and offers vital skills for handling disclosures of sexual harm. The workshop will focus on empowering anyone, with practical skills and evidence-based knowledge, to respond to a disclosure in a trauma-informed ‘best-practice’ manner. All skill levels welcome, and no prior knowledge is expected.

Teaching Kids Consent (online workshop)

1.5-hour workshop

This workshop is an introductory session for adults interested in empowering children and young people with behaviours that enable them to recognise situations in which their personal space and sense of safety may be compromised. We will discuss ways we can empower children to know what safety might look and feel like, provide them with strong language skills to ask for help if they need it, and to identify the safe people in their life for support and protection.

This workshop is intended for parents and guardians of children but all are welcome!
(this workshop is also new to our program for 2022 and we are currently offering introductory pricing as a way to ensure it is available to as many parents/guardians as possible).
