Sexual Trauma 1st Aid

This essential workshop focuses on empowering anyone with practical skills and evidence-based knowledge to respond to a disclosure in a trauma-informed ‘best-practice’ manner. We recommend running this session over four hours with a few short breaks.

Professional Development Outline:Keep calm, do not react, respond

  • SASS overview and support pathways

  • Awareness raising of information about sexual harm

  • Overview of trauma informed practice principles

  • Active consent

  • Neurological impact of trauma

  • Socio-cultural drivers of sexual harm

  • Responding to disclosures of sexual harm

  • Basic interventions for trauma symptoms

  • Self-care and vicarious trauma prevention

Expected outcomes for participants:

  • Knowledge of supports available, referral pathways and reporting processes

  • Improved understanding of the impact of sexual harm
