Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, Jacquie Petrusma, announced an additional $250,000 in funding for Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) yesterday. 

SASS is pleased to announce that thanks to a grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund we have converted a series of our most-accessed resources and factsheets into Easy Read.

Join us for Wear Teal Tuesday on April 7, 2020 and help raise awareness of sexual harassment, assault and abuse and bring an end to sexual harm. Wearing teal, whether it’s a teal ribbon, shirt or other accessory, will serve as a conversation starter for important issues around consent, respect and supporting survivors.

SASS notes that the Justice Legislation (Mandatory Sentencing) Bill 2019 has recently passed the lower house. We appreciate that this legislation has prompted much debate. SASS initially supported the Bill when it was first brought to Parliament in 2017. We did so because we believed, and continue to believe, that sentences are not appropriately reflecting the significant impacts children experience as a result of sexual assault.

In collaboration with three other key specialist family violence service providers across Tasmania, SASS expresses our opposition to the Commonwealth Government's review of the family law system.
