SASS welcomes the State Government's new Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan

25 November 2022

Earlier this afternoon the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, the Honourable Jo Palmer, launch the State Government’s third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan. SASS Chief Executive Officer Jill Maxwell says she welcomes the plan, while noting there is still much work to be done.

“I am pleased and encouraged to see the emphasis on collaboration in the plan,” says Jill.

“SASS is committed to playing a role in driving positive change, not just through government but also in the many communities around Tasmania.”

“One of our priorities is working to ensure the needs of victim/survivors are right at the centre of how systems work.”

“This year we’ve all heard so much about the lived experiences of survivors of sexual violence, through the Commission of Inquiry and the Lived Experiences survey. As a sector, a government and a community we need to be taking a trauma-informed approach to all services, not just counselling support.”

Jill says she is looking forward to working with the State Government and other services as the actions of this new Family and Sexual Violence are implemented.
Ends.
